Loving this DIY Chalk Paint

I had heard of Chalk paint. Customers come into the store where I work requesting less expensive versions of the costly name brands of chalk paint. After some research, I tried a DIY version of chalk paint. It works great with the Behr Ultra 8 oz. paint samples (Purchased from Home Depot), Plaster of Paris and water. Finished with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax. I used a Roadkill Rescue stool found on the side of the road to try the DIY chalk paint and had excellent results. Chalk paint is great on furniture. A benefit is no prep. No sanding. No priming. Just paint away. Purdy XL brushes( also available at Home Depot) work great for this project. The DIY chalk paint goes on smooth and after the first coat there is minimal, if any brush marks. The paint dries quickly. Finishing with the Minwax Paste Finishing Wax gives it a beautiful satin smooth sheen. This does require some elbow grease, however the finish is a beautiful smooth finish with no brush marks. You can use different techniques. The stool was dry brushed with a darker color for an aged look. Chalk paint can be applied as a basic one color or two color. It can be applied to wood, metal, some plastics and pottery. An inexpensive DIY for chalk paint enthusiast. The stool, desk and TV stand all required less than $4 worth of product for each project.

I'd never used a name brand chalk paint until recently when Home Depot started carrying the Americana Decor brand. I bought and used one small container. I have way too much left over paint in the garage and this plaster of paris recipe works great! I also always check the mis-tint racks at Lowes and Home Depot. I have quite a collection of paint to work with! lol
