We wanted to update the kids/guest bathroom but didn't want to break the bank doing it. Read on and I’ll show you how to transform a small bathroom by just adding some paint and wood.

My biggest little helper at work!

First we removed the towel bar and the toilet paper holder. They ended up leaving holes so we had to patch the wall. I just used a wall patch and some spackle to give this a fresh new look.

We removed all of the baseboards so I could install new baseboards as part of the board and batten treatment. I used 1x4 PVC since this was in the bathroom; however, if you're not doing a bathroom I recommend using pine 1x4. I installed the baseboard using my nail gun only-no glue.

Once the baseboards were installed, I cut the vertical strips to go up the wall. I cut them all the exact same size for the entire room and attached them to the wall using the same nail gun, making sure they’re straight by using a level.

On the larger wall, I used 16 inch increments across the wall. I lined the strips up to make sure they were straight. They were two thirds the length of the wall using the rule of thirds in design.

I then painted that top section to give us a nice clean line without cutting. I chose Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. I liked the contrast against the lighter color that would go on the bottom portion of this wall.

Top painted, I installed the top 1x4 board that went around the room. I also caulked the seams to give everything a clean look. I then painted this section a custom mixed color to match the revenant gray of the cabinets.

both sections of the wall took two coats of paint to fully cover so it was a little bit time-consuming. I added a few hooks, and a barn wood shelf to finish off the new look.

Nice. If those are towels hanging, how would they dry?
