Only work outside in the early mornings or late in the day unless the bugs drive me crazy. Pick one project and then get out of the heat
I call it a 'cleanse'. Try drinking an elixir of apple cider vinegar and honey (1 T each) mixed in 8 oz of water before heading out. Keep hydrated and remember that all that sweat is removing toxins from your body. I find if I haven't been out for a few days and then hit the garden hard, I will actually start to shake a bit upon the initial sweating. I keep plugging until it passes, 15 mins or so, and then am completely energized. Do take frequent breaks and use a cool cloth on your neck. It helps to get out there early, too, before the sun gets on the area you are working on. When it does hit, you are so involved, you don't want to quit.
I do most of it right at sunrise before it gets too hot .
Work in the early morning when it is not so hot-- or for a while in the evening. If you have to work in the heat of the day-- be prepared, then suck it up and just go for it. Set a time limit.
ice cream soda "to go" with a straw.
Being that I spend my summers in TX with my daughter and family I find it easiest to do any outside yard work or gardening in the cooler times of the day; early morning and after dinner time. Other that that, put on a wide brimmed hat, sunblock and bring a big bottle of water out with you. Also, take frequent breaks to prevent heatstroke.
wsit till it cools early morning or late evening I live in Fl
On the days it's above 90, which has been a lot lately, I get up really early to do outside work then come in for a while and take a break and go back out for about 15 to 20 minutes, then come in again and repeat for 2 or 3 more times. I try not to be outside b/w 11-3. I drink lots of water!!!!!!!! I usually wait for the sun to go down before I go back out to work in the yard. Even though it is still hot, the sun isn't beating down on me.
My question is WHY? Not good to work in heat, especially if you are older. Why not work in the early morning, when it is still cool?
