You did not say where the can is damaged; but If the paint inside the can has not been already contaminated too much with the residue from the paint can, then get a cheap plastic soup ladle, and carefully ladle the good paint out of the damaged can, into a brand new can.
You can purchase brand new clean paint cans with lids at locations where paint is sold.

  • You can buy a new clean paint can at any hardware or home improvement center in all sizes. This happens all the time and even if it doesn't why hang on to a larger container than necessary, pick one up for a couple bucks and save that paint!

I would put it in any plastic container with a tight fitting lid

Go to a local paint store (or other store that sells paint) you can buy a new can? I know you can get a new 1 @ Home Depot. Otherwise store in a very tightly sealed plastic container

Any air tight container would save your paint. Do you save the coffee plastic containers that have screw on lids? (not just snap on) Be sure to label it if you put it in another container and swipe a small sample of the color on a paper label if there is one. We stick one on if there is not one unless the container is clear.
