The glue on the front door trim has bled out. How can this be repaired? Remove the glue from the door and repair it?

Clean the old glue and use liquid nails (at least that is what I would do).

Is it a wooden door with wooden applied molding or a metal door with a plastic glued on overlay?

It sounds like the glue will need to be removed from the door. Try a scraper and if it's a painted door, repaint it. If it's wood, you will need to refinish.
Keep wiping the wet glue that seeps through, using a clean cloth or even a paper towel.

Use something plastic to scrape off as much of the glue. The you can use nail polish remover to remove the residue. A putty knife wrapped with a damp cloth in nail polish remover can get up to the edge of the trim.
