Brightening up a Dark Stairway

Tina Mairs
by Tina Mairs
The stairs to master bedroom needed a major new look!
Very old stinky shag carpet led to the master bedroom and bathroom. It was finally time to give this area a make-over. First I pulled all the carpet and liner up.
I was surprised to find some nice wood under the carpet. It was in a little rough shape, but nothing needed replacing.
I gave them a little cleaning up, prepping for paint
I first primed the whole area, walls and steps
I used this special sand the paint store recommended for mixing into the paint so the stairs wouldn't be slippery. All the paint I used was stuff I had on hand..basic white first
so much brighter looking down and cleaner looking!
I used a light blue paint I had laying around for the risers and then I went to Dollarama and found these great decals with love quotes. Since they do lead to our bedroom, I thought it was a little romantic
I did have to use a sealer/modpodge glue to secure the stickers in place.
I love how they all came out!
the topmost step.... Now to find another room to tackle!

With mixing the sand in does this not make the stairs hard to clean? We did this in a similar way and I can wait to get it off. Your stairs and stairwell look very nice

How durable will this be considering the foot traffic?
