Are you wanting to decorate your staircase in a Tuscan decor style?
Please tell us a little more about what your project and goals are.
The stairs are carpeted. The rail and base boards and such are blond oak. How can the stairs be made to look more tuscan with out breaking the bank? I'd love to use black wrought iron, but I'm afraid of the cost and its lack of sturdiness.
Can you supply more info.
For the riser portion you could consider tile or Mediterranean stencils Take a look at some of these ideas of what has been done to these stairs:

Here is a link to Mediterranean stencils:

Mediterranean tiles may be another option on the risers.
Since you are thinking wrought iron, maybe visit a place like a restore but mainly contractor donated items...you'll find things like antique sinks, marble columns, railing (bring your stairs measurements), etc. It is a type of a restore, but with a contractor spin on it.

Hi Susan. You can make your staircase look Mediterranean without breaking the bank. You can paint the walls with vibrant bold jewel tones. If you're a little hesitant to cover your walls in intense color, focus just on the accents. Textured walls are commonplace in traditional Mediterranean homes. If you're open to a little trial and error, you can mimic the look of raised texture by adding sand or coffee grounds to paint. Terra cotta tiles are usually always found in the Mediterranean. It would cost less to add some terra cotta tiles as a border. A few tiles can make a surprising impact for little cost. Or try using stencils on your stair risers to look like tile. You always get the biggest bang for your buck with paint. And, lastly, wrought iron is everywhere in Mediterranean homes. Wrought iron can be used as a simple accessory such as on a lamp base. Spray paint comes in a wrought iron finish. Good luck Susan.
