Some places that sell tile will figure it out for you. You need to consider the width of the grouting as well.
The tile is 10 x10
10" x 10" = 100 sq inches. 165 x 17 = 2805 sq inches. Divide that by 100 (the square inches in one tile) you get 28. But you will need two tiles for the height of the backsplash all the way across so you actually need a minimum of 34. You should probably get about 40 in case of mistakes and plan on returning a few

Hi Lee, it's going to depend on the size of your tiles but most large hardware stores and tile shops have a free calculator you can use to estimate how many tiles you need.
