We are laying a new vinyl tile floor but have never done it before and have curves to cut around.

Hi Marian, get yourself a good utility knife and lots of blades for it. As soon as you have to apply lots of pressure put in a new blade and make sure the tile is lying on something that you can cut on.
I used a utility knife. You may want to make a pattern out of cardboard and then use it to cut your tile.
