Not at all crafty, but adore pretty fabric
I want to save this cute fabric (daughters pj from many years ago), so I have put it in an embroidery ring, but now what? I will obviously cut it, then wax thinking cardboard behind it? Any suggestions would be welcome, and appreciated!!

If you are interested in protecting your project from dirt, dust, UV light, etc...you could spray it with a fabric protector such as ScotchGard. You can fine this at Walmart or diy stores, maybe some automotive shops.
Cute fabric! I would trim the fabric and not worry about cardboard. You could add some decorative trim around the outside of the embroidery hoop - maybe pom pom fringe?
There's really no need for cardboard backing if you have the fabric pulled tautly on the embroidery hoop and it appears that you do. I might suggest that you paint the embroidery hoop (frame) in one of the colors from the printed fabric. Spray the fabric well with Scotchguard and then place back in frame. You could also use the remaining fabric to decoupage some additional items. See links below:

not sure what you are trying to achieve with this project. If you want to save a portion of her pj's then cut it out and use fabric tape to adhere it to a backing and frame it to hang on the wall
you can also buy deep inset frames like a shadow box to place this in and you could add a small toy or photo of her in the PJs

Hello,
Use Mod Podge on the fabric. Cut the edges leaving a edge all around. Either tuck it into the back or add an edging of something like lace. No need to back it as you could hang it directly from the frame on to a hook etc.
Fantastic!! Thanks everyone!!!
Hi Penny, I won't use wax the fabric, rather use a fabric spray protector. This tutorial will guide you through the process - https://nymag.com/strategist/article/how-to-protect-fabric-furniture-from-stains.html. HAve fun and I think it's a lovely idea
Put it in a picture fram and then cut our items in the material Nd glue them on raised onto same items so they look 3 D put something behind them to raise them up them apply the material.
You can sew it on a pillow.... from the fabric place it on another pillow.
You could hot glue those little crafty fuzzy balls (I can't think of their name) in white or an accent color from the fabric around the wood embroidery ring. I did that for a gallery wall in my daughters room.
It might be nice to put the fabric in a quilt block, add more blocks with the same fabric and fabrics from her clothes from that era.
Just Mod Pod it! It fine as it is.
If you know how to embroider, you can add her name or a year to the fabric.
