Cover the books with fabric, and use for booster chair. If you have grand kids the fabric will keep it from sliding. Wrap an old sheet around child and tie in back for secure seating. That's the best I can do. Used this sometime ago, no problem

You can wrap them and use them as decorations for holidays-heart paper for Valentine's Day or Christmas paper for Christmas, etc. Use the pages as a cute mat in picture frames. Pull out the the pages that relate to you or someone you know (for example the page with their old number on it or the pages of their favorite restaurants) and modge podge them to a shoe box, jar, or scrapbook and give it to them. The shoe box they can store things in as well as the jar. You can put your favorite memories with them in the scrapbook and let them fill it with theirs too.

Good suggestions above and I'm sure you can develop some of those into some fun projects. But I put several of the big thick books in the back of my van with some clippers and when I see something on the side of the road worthy of my time I stop, clip, put blooms and leaves into the books and begin them to a life of preservation. When I get home I stack them with something heavy on top and let them sit for several weeks. After they are completely dry I remove and store in my pressed flower cabinet. I use them throughout the year in other project. They will eventually loose their color because of UV rays but you can dust them up with some artist chalks and/or some watercolor/acrylic washes. And try to use UV Filtering glass when you frame them. Have fun with the phone books.

I use them when gluing with scrap booking or making greeting cards. When the glue goes over the edge I simply tear out that page and there is a clean surface again.
