Who has ideas for reusing good shoe soles whose shoe tops are shot?

Found OLD sneaker-type rubber-soled shoes in the back of the closet that I bought years ago because they were colors I needed for something specific. Fabric shoe uppers are now brittle and useless, but it seems a total waste to throw away the good soles. Suggestions?

There are lots there also, to crochet on soles,..
I don't know if this is helpful at all - or not, but I see knitting or crocheting patterns for slippers now and then that call for sewing soles to the bottom to make them non-slip.
Could you use them as planters?
Cactus? Cornflowers? Ornamental Grasses?
