Eliminating Sweetgum Balls
by
Walter Reeves
(IC: homeowner)
I was severely dis-heartened to look up in my big sweetgum yesterday and note the thousands of balls that have not yet fallen from last year. If I didn't need the shade, it would be gone in a heartbeat. There IS a way to "neuter" a sweetgum, but it's not easy!

Rebecca Dawn Davies-Kleitz on Aug 08, 2015Yeah. Sooner or later--y'all keep cutting down your trees in the south, and it'll be hell fire hot there like it is in the western states. I'll never understand the desire in the south to cut down every single tree. Clear cut operations as far as the eye can see and beyond in southern Georgia and the temps rising and rising. I have a ton of black walnut trees up here where I live, and they are very annoying and it hurts like hell when the nuts fall and hit me on my head, but, I'm not cutting them down. I love my trees and I would not punish them for being what they are.
