I want you to see my Philadelphus. Underneath I had lilies which I just dug out. There is a faucet on the long brick wall and some blue Hydrangeas and an Elephant Ear. The little fence is just a privacy measure. I just planted two hot pink Rhododendrons next to purple Irises. Shade mornings and blazing hot in afternoon in this area. Thinking about installing a shower here. Not sure about the Rhododendrons. Help!

The Cannas or whatever were too much upkeep and just looked like a dead corner in winter. That is why I want to go with shrubs. Also have have a low bench of large stacked rock for the shower to go behind. The Philadelphus is glorious about 10 ft tall.

My nursery suggested a Hydrangea bush that grows smaller white clusters. I have finished and will try to post a pic now.

I wonder if my white stuff is Dusty Miller? I can put in some Salvia in front of whatever I have that is white or dusty but do not want to overcrowd.

Dark purple, reddish autumn tone, chartreuse coleus along with a rex begonia (the one with whirligig looking leaves is awesome) and creeping jenny in a large pot on the porch.

Awesome group topic. Thank you for gathering all of us plant enthusiasts who range from container gardening to creating magnificent landscape gardens. I love mixing and matching the oddest most unexpected combinations that folks chase me down to ask how and what is in a certain creation. What makes for even more interesting plant combinations, is what one plants them in.This is also what I consider a critical aspect, of your asking for plant combo's, of this group merely in own Humble opinion only. Thank you I am very anxious to follow your posts.

I like to mix three colors: dark red/purple/bronze, plus chartreuse (like Dorothy, above), plus something glaucous (gray, blue-gray, green-gray, pink-gray, ANY-gray!). I pick the plants in these three color themes for the growing conditions of the planting area (sun, shade, wet, dry, container or not, etc.), and try to vary size&shape, height, leaf size/shape, etc.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures but I love hosta and coleus together. The hosta will come back every year put the coleus is an annual which gives you a choice each year to try something different if you like.

I love the look of Walker's low catmint underneath my roses. The catmint blooms all summer in lovely purple spires and doesn't overwhelm the rosebushes. For planters I love hosta and golden creeping jenny.
