While Mrs Moxie wanted the more economical k-style gutterfor our Victorian home, I held out for half round … even if that meant I had to do itmyself. Oh, and yes - there are differentstyles of gutter, in many different material choices.
Installing gutters is not a project that is beyond mostdiyers' reach. But there is the matter ofthe ladders and, well, getting up on them.
When installing them, it is important to … think like water, and to consider your project as sorta akin to installing roof plumbing.
The project itself can be broken down into 7 basic steps:
* Prep – for me this meant work on exterior trim & on claydownspout leaders.
* Laying Out – installing brackets and both sizing & test fitting gutters.
* Installing the Gutter Outlet – the bit that the downspoutconnects to.
* Hanging the Gutter - useful to have a hand here.
* Installing the Downspout – routing the downspouts andattaching them to the house.
* Connecting Discharges – in my case this meant inserting downspouts intoleader inlets, and installing a rain barrel.
* Finishing – installing debris guards, and applying touch uppaint. In my case, this included tying off thegutters with piano wire.
Estimates below in terms of one gutter and downspout section ... varying of course by length and difficulty. Hope this helps HomeTalkers. Enjoy.
