The little tiny red squirrels are destroying the insulation on my truck hood. Any ideas on how to deter this? Moth ball do not seem to have any effect.

Try Used coffee grounds in and old ladys stocking.Put it any where there is space. If you don't drink a lot of coffee you may have to ask friends and family for their coffee grounds. I am Basing this on the fact that coffee grounds sprinkled in the yard will keep dogs out.

Cayenne pepper burns their noses. As a last resort a .22 pistol works great.

We have squirrels everywhere, and the only one who had a problem like yours was this guy who had his truck parked for a long period of time without driving it, so they made a nest under his hood, chewed wires, etc. He started parking on the street and moving it regularly and never had it happen again. I'd try the cayenne pepper thing though, or check online, they have something for just about every critter so I'm sure they have something that deters squirrels too. I had them running around my roof and chewing the eaves some, racoons too, so I cut down all the trees next to the house, nothing can get up there now so I'm a happy camper, and they've moved on to greener pastures. Maybe the hardware store, or sportsman store would have some advice too, since they deal with this stuff.

Hello. We had the same problem at the fire department. Squirrels are only active during the day, so try to figure out when they do this. If it's at night it's probably mice. Pet stores sell bitter apple spray and this worked with the squirrels. If it's mice, layout mouse traps. You can also adopt a cat for outside. A cat will keep everything away. Good luck! I hope you find something that works.

Try a live animal trap & use peanut butter for bait. When you catch em...the disposition is up to you!

Hi Turtlewalk: Basically, you can't get rid of squirrels. Feed them somewhere else, and remember, everything needs to eat, so if you can, learn to enjoy the little buggers. I will say that they climb up my peach trees and throw peaches at me, but that's only when I forget to put something out for them:) If they are chewing on your wiring, spray with a mixture of 3/4 water and 1/4 oil of clove (you can get it in the candy making section of the store, it's a bottle about 2 1/2 inches high and only costs a couple of bucks). Put this in a spray bottle and spray whatever you don't want chewed or clawed. Works for cats and dogs, too. Won't harm them, smells great, tastes terrible:( Good luck

  • Get a bag of blood meal from the nursery, spread through garden. The squirrels don't like blood smell at all and it also is a mild fertilizer
