Chess Piece Armoire

I wanted to show you a fun makeover because it incorporates a little different style than I normally do. Usually I paint the outside of a piece of furniture and sometimes stain the drawer fronts. In this case, I wanted to mix it up a bit and paint the drawers and stain the outside.
Before
The drawer and door fronts were painted with Benjamin Moore’s color Soft Chinchilla 2135-50. We filled some of the hardware holes so we could use a single knob for each drawer and door.
The outside of the cabinet was stained a bit darker than it’s original finish.
My mom stopped by with old chess pieces from my dad. It was missing some to the set so he didn’t want it any more. I decided to make it into hardware. Here’s what you’ll need to make the hardware:
You’ll also need super glue, a drill and pliers. I drilled about 2/3 of the way through the chess piece with a drill bit that was just a tiny bit smaller than the screws so it held tightly. Then dripped super glue into the holes and screwed the hanger bolts into the holes using pliers.
This piece is for sale right now and you can check out all the new furniture for sale on our website If you’d like to purchase it, please use our Contact Us form or stop by our store at 272 River Street, Troy, NY.
