DIY Garden ~ A Simple Branch Arbor

When you are pruning tree branches or taking down a tree, don’t haul all those branches to be cut up for the fire pit or fireplace – reuse them in your garden! Last summer, several large branches needed to be trimmed and I used them to make a simple arbor over our back gate. Now, I know this arbor won’t last forever, but it will last long enough or me to decide just what I want there permanently. One note is to use green limbs as they will bend more easily. Pre-drill guide holes and attach to your fence with wood screws. Fast, easy and inexpensive – my idea of the perfect garden project!

Tricia Lenwell on May 17, 2016Love it! I have been recycling branches and limbs forever. Right now, we built a frame of branches for our garage door. I planted wisteria and clematis (confederate jasmine as well) and we're training the wisteria et al to climb the branches and create an arbor/trellis . I can't change the garage as this is a historic district and my ugly existing building garage (that is certainly not historic but is an existing structure) can have plants etc surrounding it so here we go. I'll post pictures later. I also have used limbs inside the house as display pieces/I love crepe myrtle branches and ice storms have provided me my materials :)
