Christmas DIY: Birch Tree Wine Glasses

We’re excited to bring you a Holiday DIY as versatile as it is charming! Debbie of My Patch of Blue Sky textures and paints an ordinary wine glass and adds an elegant twist for a stylish holiday table setting. Once the holidays are over, you can use the conversation piece again and again for gatherings large and small! Let’s see how she did it.
SUPPLIES
• ShimmerStone Tintable Base
• Black Pearl Metallic Paint
• Wine Glasses
• Small Paint Brush
• Frosting Kit (plastic bag and small round tip)
Debbie recently visited our Modern Masters headquarters and was inspired to create this holiday project by the beautiful birch trees around the property. She gives them a winter twist – perfect for the holidays.
First, for the stem, use a small brush to add the simulated tree bark, using ShimmerStone. The ShimmerStone adheres to glass beautifully and gives a shimmery textured look and feel.
Next, prepare a frosting bag with ShimmerStone. Debbie kept it the original color but you could tint the ShimmerStone to taste using any of the color concentrates designed for use with Shimmerstone.
Use the frosting bag to create texture for the birch bark and don’t forget to add snowflakes and stars! Have your inspiration image handy to guide your artwork as you go along, if needed.

Please note that Shimmerstone is a decorative coating and these glasses can be used as a decorative piece. If using as a wine glass, we would recommend drinking out of the back area where there is no product or if you'd prefer, customize your project to only go up to about an inch from the top of the glass.
We hope you like this idea and decide to give it a try this holiday season! Click the link to our blog below for more Christmas DIY inspiration!

    This is very classy!

Quick question, though, as I've done etching, alcohol inks, acrylics... What sealant are you using that is safe for drinking from?

I've had to make sure there is at least 1/2"-1 1/4" "lip" space at the rim of my glasses due to not finding a food safe sealant.
