What do you do when a friend gives you a couple of old rusty couch springs? You make little sparkly Christmas trees, of course!
I was really excited when my sweet friend asked if I'd like some vintage glass jars she had. When I arrived to pick them up, she handed me these couch springs too - just in case I wanted to do anything with them. I sat one in my hand and looked at it for a moment. It reminded me of a quirky little Christmas tree, and I decided to see what I could do with them.
I started by giving them a good sanding to remove the rust.
Next, I sprayed them with RustOleum's metallic gold. I was going for bright and sparkly.
To bedazzle the trees, I found these bright little Chez beads at Michael's. Using some small jewelry wire, and getting cozy on the couch for a while, I dumped the beads into a bowl and started stringing.
To decorate the trees, I started at the bottom and wrapped the end of the beaded wire around the base of the spring, giving it a shot of hot glue to hold it in place.
Then I started wrapping - around and around the spring - until I reached the top, where I cut the wire and added a second shot of glue to hold it all in place.
For the finishing touch, I visited my ribbon collection and found a golden bow to add to the top, then those rusty old couch springs were now bright and sparkly little Christmas trees!
I love these cute little trees, but I especially love how something old got a brand new life and is useful again.
