Refinishing Our Farmhouse Stairs

It has been a few years coming but we finally got around to refinishing our farmhouse stairs. When we moved into our farmhouse 3 years ago our whole upstairs was covered in old and mismatched wall to wall carpet. We were disappointed to discover that under most of the carpet was either plywood or hardwood floors in terrible shape that had to be replaced.
The first thing we pull up the old dirty carpet on the hallway floors and stairs.
And we pulled out lots of pesky carpet staples. Our furry dog Moose is always around to help with our DIY projects.
Since there were some spots on our stairway that had plywood underneath we added unfinished wide pine floors to match the rest of the upstairs floors. Then we sanded everything down which was very messy and dusty.
After staining and adding poly - urethane to the floors and steps we taped them off so we could paint them with white semi gloss paint.
We could not be happier with how our farmhouse stairs turned out! To see more step by step photos and for more detailed instructions on how we refinished our farmhouse stairs click on the link below and it will take you to our blog, Lehman Lane.
