DIY Reclaimed Wood Door Faux Fireplace Insert
Hi there, Hometalk Friends! Today I’m sharing a DIY faux fireplace insert created from a reclaimed wood door I found at my favorite thrift store. However, a similar piece could also be constructed from reclaimed pallet wood.
Years ago, I found an electric fireplace minus the firebox heating part on clearance and have treasured it ever since. Our winters are mild, so it's used strictly for decorative purposes and I often fill the hearth with candles. However, I've been wanting to add some type of architectural detail to the back to give it a more cohesive look. I wasn't sure exactly how this would come about, but I've kept measurements on my phone and have been on the lookout. Perseverance paid off and when I discovered a salvaged door piece that was the right size, I couldn't wait to try out my idea. Need reclaimed wood?

Because the door piece is free standing, there was no need to attach it, I simply turned it on its side and placed at the back of the fireplace. When I first added it, I wondered if my vision had been overly optimistic. As much as I love the original paint color and distressing, I knew I would need to paint it all white to achieve the desired look.
Just as I imagined, it was much better painted white!
