I made this wooden landscape lighting for our entryway. The light reflects off a Spanish Cedar top angled at 20 degrees. The reflected light provides a beautiful amber glow at night. The top also serves to protect the LED bulb from rain and snow.
The LED light also shines through slots cut into walnut grilles that serve to join the legs together. The legs are 2" posts made from Sipo (Utile) which is an African wood that has characteristics similar to Mahogany.
When I made these, I used acrylic sheets behind the walnut, but it's really not necessary. It adds to the complexity and cost, but it doesn't add much weather protection, so I would advise skipping this part.
