Hey y'all! So, I'm back with another one of my DIYS! This one is one of my favorites! So, when we first moved into our home, I knew I wanted to do something with this wall. I knew I wanted shiplap and I wanted white bookcases with a wood top! We are definitely a little duo, hence why we call ourselves The DIY Duo. I envision the dream and Darryl makes it come true.
The first thing we did was purchase the bookcases from Target. They were only $19, I believe. I chose these because I wanted a simplistic look but wanted to upgrade it to look like a built in. These are cheaply made but once we are done with this DIY, it will look awesome!
Honestly, this is such an easy DIY. All we did was glue the bookshelves together and that was a huge part of making the room come together. Then, we placed the wood on top of the bookcases.
The shiplap wall looked amazing as is but I wanted to frame it up, I felt like adding a frame around it would bring it together and I was definitely right. It looked so awesome once it was framed.
After the shiplap wall was framed, then we started framing the bookcases. This is where the magic happened to make these cheap bookcases look like a built in. Just go get some pine board. I linked one below. You can get it unfinished so you can paint it yourself or get one already the color you need. We just purchased the ones that were already white (it makes it so much easier).
Then, it's time to paint. We started painting the frame of the shiplap since we used unfinished pine for that DIY. I also started staining the wood on top of the bookcases. Staining is my favorite! Y'all already know this ;)
I hope you enjoyed this DIY! Honestly guys, hometalk is such a cool platform and I plan on documenting my DIYS and everything we have done to our house on here as well as on my YouTube channel! So, make sure you hop on over to: www.youtube.com/gracefulandlovely and be a part of the family!
Hope y'all enjoyed this DIY! I have plenty more on my channel ;)

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
How are you going to finish the sides of the bookcases?
Why wouldn't you paint (and stain) the trim before you put it on? Then all you'd have to touch up would be any nails that showed.
How did you deal with the wall's baseboard that would cause a gap between the bookcases and the wall? Looks great, by the way.
