I have found the best rule is: You are NOT done with it until you put it away. NO exceptions!
Have a place for everything. Storage boxes work wonders. If you have kids, paint each their favorite color then put their name on it.
Benches with storage inside for boots and outdoor activity equipment .

I use a wrought iron bakers rack. I added wicker baskets to hold odds and ends. The plus is you can decorate the top shelf with plants pots etc..
What is cluttering your patio? It makes a difference on how you can manage it. Got any pics?
Now is the time to clean out and organize. Enlist help if need be. Then put things away where they belong every single time. Once you get into the routine, it becomes second nature.
We use deck boxes for the pool toys etc. I also have a small cabinet on the covered patio to hold a few gardening tools and bags of miracle grow.
