How to Make a Trash Bin Lid

Make a cute nautical lid for a wicker trash bin! No need to stare at Q-tips while brushing your teeth!
First, cut a piece of styrofoam with dimensions equal to the top of your trash bin. I used a piece of styrofoam from our TV, but any similar light material should work. For example, a few foam boards glued together will do the job.
Then, cut a small square hole in the middle and at the top of the styrofoam piece.
Glue manila rope around the styrofoam, but leave the side across from the square hole unfinished. Make sure that any ends and gaps are on one of the sides only. That way the top of the lid will remain neat and pretty.
Use the manila rope to make a small loop and glue it on the unfinished side of the styrofoam. Then, glue the rope above it to hide its ends.
I used a small zip tie to attach the lid through the square hole to the wicker trash bin. The original color of the zip tie was black, which definitely did not fit with my nautical decor idea, so I painted it with some golden nail polish. I also glued a large starfish on top of the lid to complement the nautical theme.

I like this. I also have a nautical bathroom theme. But this particular basket and lid looks like it would make a great laundry hamper.
