You COULD still plant the wine bottles bottoms up among the main roots, just don't plan on their standing in a straight line. You You could make the bottles into rustic candle holders. The authentic way would be to stick a colored taper into the mouth, let it burn down, dripping its wax down the bottle. Then place a different colored candle in the mouth, allowing it to drip hot wax down the bottle; etc. An easier way is to drip thick paint of variour colors from the mouth down, then put a partially burned candle into the mouth of the bottle.
You could stick the bottles head first or bottom first into a wooden pallet, with corks in the top (to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.) This would make a colorful art piece in your yard or patio, with the sun shining through the glass.
You could carefully break some bottles and use the flat pieces for a mosaic tabletop. Or use rounded pieces to make a mosaic covering for a jug, a lamp, or a flowerpot.
You can add twine around the neck of some wine bottles and hang them from tree branches. Cork the bottles to keep mosquitoes from laying eggs.

Wine bottles make great candles. You can either stick a taper candle in the opening, or use a special cutter and take the neck off and sand it smooth. Then, using your imagination, you can decorate the outside of the bottles with etching designs or other trims. Purchase the proper wax and wicks and make your candles. ALWAYS a great go-to gift. Wine bottles can even be used as oil diffusers.
If your still serious about wanting them outside, I've seen somewhere people hanging them from tree limbs like sparkly jewels. With a little creativity, you can probably even fashion wind chimes with the bottle as the center.
I have seen wine bottle trees. They are really beautiful. If you Google them I'm sure you can find where to buy them.
Use them to line your flower bed, or make a small flower bed around the mailbox .
Oh Brandy! I found this great site with 10 great ideas I hope you like! https://www.bobvila.com/slideshow/16-creative-new-ways-to-use-old-bottles-47714#.WX5LIrhK3rc Enjoy!
Make a bottle tree as a focal point in the garden.
Hello Brandy; There are numerous things that you can use empty wine bottles for!!! They are a "Hot" item to use for crafting.
You can reuse the actual wine bottle, to make Gifts by refilling it with something else.
Homemade Vinegar, Vanilla, and Cooking Oils are appreciated gifts.
I have used older wine bottles. I broke the bottle into small bits, and I used the bits in crafts. The glass is easy to glue and looks nice.
You can still use the bottles in your yard, if you desire. Dig a slender hole, using a post hole digger. Place the bottle in the hole.
Also, Please be sure and look on Google and Pinterest. There are so many ideas that I saw, that I now want to make some of the crafts!!!!
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
You can put them around a flower bed as a border. Pinterest has great ideas for making bird feeders out of them.
you can make wind chimes or use them as vases. You can use as a mini garden the list goes on.Hope this was helpful.
