This bird wall decor piece is a fun activity to create with the children.
Or a fab rustic clay piece to decorate the home.
It uses airdry craft clay and a bird template sourced from the internet free template selection.
It created with air-dry craft clay (as pictured).
And a bird template sourced from the internet free template selection.
I used a swallow design, but you can use what you wish.
The clay is rolled out to about 5mm thickness. The paper template that has been cut out placed on top of clay.
My 5 year old grandson helped cut out the template on the clay.
We used a blunt bread and butter knife. Remember knife safety if children are helping with this project.
Then the bird is imprinted with a pattern - we used a metal heart, but anything that can create a pattern can be used.
Next a metal hanger at the back. I used a metal bead tag chain that was off a clothing label. Use more clay blobs on back to embed the hanger
Then the bird is left it to dry. This took about 4 days.
Once dry. You can leave it natural or paint it.
We painted ours with grey chalk paint.
You could paint the bird colours, and do more outlined detail if desired.
Then hung it once dry.
