Does anyone have suggestions for 'reusing' this painting?

If this was mine I would paint white, then do splashes of reds, oranges and grays to go with your gray and black. I know you said you don't want to go with red, but paired with orange you might like it. My decorator always said, "It's only paint!"
Other than red with gray and black you could use fuchsia, bright yellow, aqua/turquoise, purple, silver.
Just found this.

What kind of a painting is it? Any chance of a picture?
So, Line all your old paint colours up and any samples you like the look of and
splash a bit of each till you are happy with your composition.......
Mauve & & Pinks mixed with light grey & off white - if you are using modern furniture - I'd do whirlinds & shwirls - let the kids do it they are creative.
the reds or deep pink will look great-- just try to make some different color squares-- large ones
My current project is upcycling a canvas. I've gone for yellow paint. I'll be attaching fake cherry blossom, butterflies and fairy lights!
With black and gray as a background you can have any colour you fancy!
Best wishes whatever colour you choose!
I might make a black border all way around about two inches wide ,then a white one ,question to me is how modern are your furnishings, love the chair and you know you can add some stuffing to the back pillow they almost always have a zipper on bottom
The impression I get from the painting right now is wistful. As you know your base colors of black, white and brown "seat" or stabilize the painting. Therefore, any other color you want to use will work. I would work with the red/pink and incorporate your stable colors and one other warm color and make your grays cool grays. You can even paint a cover of a pillow for the brown chair that use three of the colors in the new painting. Good luck.
Over the years, I have found that my personal palette hasn't changed. Using blacks grey and reds can be contemporary, modern, classic, or whatever you wish. The style depends on what you have, what you might want to add or subtract from your room, AND how you excessorize. For your intense items of interest, primary colors of blue and yellow in any of their hues can make a bold statement. Remember to go with what feels right to you.
