Put it in Ziploc freezer bags in the amount you need when cooking in the future. Lay flat in the freezer! Works great! I've done this numerous times!

I once made puree out of my Halloween pumpkins for Thanksgiving pies. It was easy to do, think I followed a recipe in "Joy of Cooking" but the pumpkins sold for Halloween are not really pie pumpkins so the puree was kind of watery and had to be drained! However the filling itself tasted fine.
May be better to cut the pumpkin into peaces. Put in in freezer bags and purée it later.
