DIY Hand Sanitizer for Winter
There are chemist tips for making just about anything you want at home. This DIY hand sanitizer is one of those super easy things to make and never have to buy again!
Plus by making your own hand sanitizer, you can control exactly what goes into it including scent!
Since Christmas is approaching, I wanted to make a fun winter scent that would also make great DIY Christmas gift ideas!
Here is how to do it!
Ingredients:
HEy! Please click on blog post to read recent updates 3/5/2020! Please visit the link for recommendations on disinfecting. We have CDC recommendations and all recent info there! This was never meant to be used in place of PURE isopropyl alcohol or hand washing.
1 tbsp aloe vera (Please view this link to read all the exact items we use for this post. Very important! )
1/4 tbsp witch hazel
2 tbsp rubbing alcohol (70% or 91%)
1 tsp wintergreen essential oil
1/2 tsp peppermint essential oil
Small Squeeze Bottles
Directions:
In a small bowl, add in the aloe vera, witch hazel, and rubbing alcohol. Stir until mixed together.
Add in the oils, mix around a little (don’t worry about it being 100% combined at this point).
Add all of this to a squeeze bottle. It will fill one of these to the very top.
Remember that oils will settle, so ALWAYS give it a little shake before use
How to Use:
**this does not take the place of hand washing, but should only be used for the time being until you can use soap and water. Please click on blog post link for CDC recommendations**
Add a small dime sized amount to hands and rub! It will leave your hands soft and clean!
This will last for a year in the bottle, just always give it a shake before use.

Actually, don’t panic at all. Just use soap and water, wash thoroughly for 15-20 seconds. Doesn’t matter whether the water is hot or cold, or what kind of soap you use. It’s the agitation that cleanses. Antibacterial substances do not work against viruses. So save your money.

If I'm not mistaken, you need to store essential oil products in a dark colored glass container to keep the essential oils strong and effective.

Long term storage of essential oils needs to be in glass because they will eat away plastics overtime. For small solutions, they can be kept in plastics for a short time without it impacting the plastic

I like your hand sanitizer recipe, I have everything in my cupboard but the wintergreen. How important is it if left out. Just wondering. And thanks for posting DIY, use them all the time.
