Use drop cloth to get a neutral tone pillow cover. You can get 6-7 pillows out of one drop cloth depending on the size. Which means you can make these for about a $1 each!
Start by measuring your pillows. To make a envelope pillow you will take your heights and add 1" and take your width and multiply by 2 and add 6 ". So. for an 18 inch pillow you need 19x42 inches of fabric.
Cut out your fabric based upon your measurements.
With the good side of the fabric facing down fold each end up one inch and pin into place. (see the red marking)
Then sew.
Once you have both sides hemmed, grab your pillow and bring it to your fabric. Place your fabric good side facing UP. Place your pillow on top and cover with your fabric, snug.
Mark where the two ends meet and secure with pins. Take your pillow out and hem each side shut (see the red marking, you can also pin this side if needed)
Once both sides out hemmed, your cover will be inside out, turn it the right side and place on your pillow.
This is your back side.

What can I wash drop cloth in to get the smell out ? I made patio curtains with them and although I pre-washed them the smell was still there.
