Maybe it needs caulk.
Is there any silicone caulking in place, or any type of caulking there? Without seeing it it is difficult to say. There may be movement in that area that is causing the caulking to become loose. Some caulking is clear so you may need to look closely and possibly feel it with your fingers.
Your shower head may have been turned slightly to hit the door, causing you to realize the rubber/plastic seal has worn away. If any of the old seal is peeling off, cut off that part, or replace the whole seal. You can buy a seal at a plumbing or home improvement store. If the frame in which the door slides is loose, clean and dry the area around the frame. Use Gorilla Waterproof Glue or another clear silicone sealer to stop any leaks from there. The old caulk or grout is also worn by now. A silicone caulk out to solve that, too. When you decide what you are going to do, please document everything for Hometalk.com. You can’t be the only one with this problem. Best wishes ☺️
Needs a new Seal strip.
Is it properly caulked?
Sounds like the caulk has failed or is failing.
