It's your house. Do what makes you happy and ignore the rest. Unless you are planning to sell in the near future. Then I would do everything stainless. I am about to remodel my kitchen and my stove will be cobalt blue.
I agree that you should do what you want. I really don't know a lot of people that have exact matches since people rarely can just buy all new at once (unless doing a complete reno). If you think you are going to sell it in the foreseeable future, you should go with matching, but depending on your market that might not matter either.
It depends on your style and the size and shape of your Kitchen. If you want to have them all different, that's ok too.
Hello Annise. My refrigerator is stainless steel but it has a side panel that is black. Therefore, I chose to have a black stove and a black front plate on my dishwasher. It looks very good in my small kitchen. So, besides thinking about what would match, personally I believe you are doing the right thing by considering how big your kitchen is and would too much stainless steel overpower it. It’s good to take your time on these types of decisions because the ultimate result is what you would have to live with on a daily basis.
It's a personal choice. Some people like the "matching" look and some like a more "eclectic" look.

The short answer is no. Go with what you like.
Do what you like not what is the trend.
