My son and I took a find from a thrift shop and gave it a modern twist.
First we removed the glass top insert. Next, we cleaned up the wood. We added the mosaic onto the base holding the glass and reinserted the glass on top of the mosaic to protect it. Finally, my son finished the piece with flourishes of paint.
I recently had a professional shop glue the mosaic to the frame for added strength - it was heavy enough to be separating from the frame after several years of aging. And the shop gave the wood and paint a protective coat. When my son and I first finished this piece, he was about four. he announced he was going to sell it to a museum
In theory, we could use it as an indoor or outdoor piece, but I'm not sure I trust it as an outdoor piece - I forgot to specify what grade of finish I wanted the shop to use.
