This tree is a wall model, but the design is unique in that it doesn't require as much lumber.
You could use heavy cardboard tubes and carpet scraps.
I've seen ones where they attach wood planks to walls, climbing higher and higher...cats love to be up high. :)
PVC pipe with carpeting or sisal cord wrapped around it is sturdy and with elbows and connectors can have a variety of "branches" and angles. Incorporating crates and/or baskets as perches and nap spots compliment the structure. It can also accommodate hammocks and is a built in scratching post.
