I've used my mother's for storing blakets, mementos etc. Right now it's a coffee table.
From the '20s. Been painted, refinished.
Could be used as a bench w/storage in mudroom. Window seat, many possibilities.
See if this gives you any ideas.

My mother used hers to store our childhood mementos (i.e. report cards, school assignments when we got a good grade, ribbons from winning at the county fair, etc.) after we all left home, she stored her afghans and quilts there during the summer months.
If it's a flat top you could repurpose it as a coffee table, entry storage bench.
Add legs and make it a buffet or use as a cool bar.
Turn it on its side, add shelves, and put on turned legs for a special cabinet or armoire. ☺️
Use it as a coffee table and store blanket/throws inside.
If the top is padded it can be used for extra seating. I have mine in the front room with a cover over the top so the dogs can look out the window.
