You could try using a straw and inhaling. The bag will flatten. Do Not blow into the bag.
I use a straw, zip the bag up to the straw, suck out the air, then pull out the straw and zip quickly!
Here is a link to a good hack alternative.

PUT drinking straw in one corner and inhale and quickly seal.
Use tall type rectangular ice bin or container filled with water and slowly submerge plastic bag down in water and when all air is out, zip or seal. Works great.
Zip it closed almost all the way and leave a small gap that you can stick a drinking straw into. Keep your fingers by the straw lightly on the bag and start sucking...as you see it collapse , jerk the straw out with your teeth and Quickly run your fingers over the zip to seal that space shut! Tah Dah!
They make zip lock bags and an air pump thingy.... https://www.amazon.com/Ziploc-Vacuum-Starter-3-Quart-1-Pump/dp/B003UEMFUG/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1523939267&sr=8-6&keywords=vacuum+zip+lock+storage+bags I had an old couple I cared for and they had me use these to break down big packages of chicken into smaller bags for freezing
Zip it all the way across and leave enough space for a straw, cut the straw in half, stick it in the end and suck the air out and quickly close it. I use my mouth, but that's just easier for me.
get a larger pot out deep enough to get to the top so you can seal. fill it with water. put bag with food in the water slowly. the water will get the excess air out. when that happens seal the food bag. label bag w/ contents.
Keep at it Kathy, I'm sure you'll master it soon! Sounds like you're almost there. Glad to help.
Hi Kathy,
Squeeze all the air out manually!
