How can I prevent my "full of yard waste" paper bags from the rain?
I don't have any place to store them once full, inbetween biweekly pick-ups. My yard is large, many bags, and not in a position to fully compost yet. Thanks!!!
Start small. Take one small area at a time, take everything out, get a little cutthroat with yourself, and move things to a "keep" pile, a "donate" pile, and a "sell" pile. Taking things a little at a time makes it less overwhelming.
Hi Norma, I’d strongly recommend reading The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up. It’s a short but powerful book about letting go of the overwhelming amount of crap we collect over our lifetime, and only holding onto the items that truly bring us joy. You can probably get a copy at your local library. Failing that, try picking just one item (eg pens). Collect up every single pen in your whole house. Look at them all together, choose your favourite few, get rid of the rest. Do this with just one type of item per day, that way it’s not overwhelming. Get 4 boxes and label them- one with SELL, one with GIVEAWAY, one with TRASH and one with PUT AWAY or STORAGE. Take a little time to do it each day till you get through the clutter. Ask yourself as you pick up each item- do I need this? when was the last time I used it? If it's been a year or so let it go. A decluttered life feels AMAZING!
Start with one room, use the above ideas in the first room, also things I am not 100% sure I want to discard I put into a box them seal up with the date on top, I reopen the box 1 year later, if I need or still want the packed stuff, then its there if not give it away. Also have fun finding new homes for the extra clutter, most people will be tickled pink to get something they like from you, have a garage sale, give to charity and write off. Once the room is decluttered you can decorate it and make a rule that everyday things must be put away in that room, move on to room number 2. Promise yourself you wont buy anything new until all is in order.
That's because you think of it as a whole. Don't worry that would make it difficult and overwhelming for anyone. My suggestion is to take it a room at a time. Remove everything to the closest room possible, now only return what you want to keep. I don't mean move the sofa and larger items unless you don't want to keep them. I was referring to books,candle holders vases,lamps..... See that way you only return the books or vase you love. Now is also a great time for a really good dusting and if you are tired of the layout move furniture around then return smaller items. Once that room is clean and declutterd take what you don't want and start a box for donations. Now move to the next room on your list. You can do an hour each day or evening or you can tackle one room each weekend. Point is an inch is a cinch a mile is a trial.
get a few baskets and sort out what your keep, donating, washing and or selling. Make it a point to not put anything in a close that you're not using. Try to keep a little wall bare in each room. Take 20 mins each night to pick up after yourself. All adults should do the same.
“A place for everything, and everything in its place.“ My problem is, all my collection bags and boxes end up being Misc. or Assorted! I found my best paintbrushes in a bag under a bunch of empty plastic honey and creamer bottles this weekend—and they are still there. Purge what you have and put it in the trunk of your car. Put everything in the first appropriate drop box for clothing, household goods, and yes-misc. ! ☺️

I make 4 boxes - donate, gift, sell and keep, and a trash bag.
I like to start with all the surfaces like tables, counters, floor.... everything has to have a home. Ask yourself if you love the item or its useful. If not ask yourself whether you want to donate it, gift it to a family member, sell it or trash it..... then put it in the appropriate box.
Shred old mail and documents with personal information, or file it in manilla folders labeled, and put in file cabinet or get a file box or file crate.
Each day when you finish, put the donate items in the car, and when you go out.... take it to the drive thru of your favorite thrift store. Take the trash out to the can. Label a price on each sale item and put in the garage or a room to prepare for the sale. Box items that are to be gifted, and mail them.
When we are looking for a home for the keep items, we may need to clean out a drawer or two, or organize a closet shelf, etc.
As we organize, we will also dust and vacuum, cause you will find wherever there is clutter, dust and pet hair is gathering also.
Keep going, if your having a hard time doing this, hire a professional organizer or get one of your clean freak, organized friends to come over.
Start with one room. Get rid of the easy to part with items. Have boxes ready that are labels as to where they are going.
