Apr 4, 2018 - For all season long color, interplant zone 5 hardy perennials like: Echinacea. Bee balm. Phlox. Daylily. Delphinium. Rudbeckia. Filipendula. Sedum.
Not sure what zone 5 boundaries are, but I love ligualaria. Has a tropical red/green leaf, and yellow flowers in mid summer. Like a little bush that spreads a bit. Good in sun or part shade and ok with dampness. I'm in Michigan. Can't beat hostas for variety and hardiness also.
hollyhocks, roses. Silver queen artimesia, rose moss. Hostas. Tall artimesia, tulips. Iris. I’ve grown these in each house I’ve owned. Yes, I’m a zone 5.
Hardy perennials that I have enjoyed when I lived further north include:
Echinacea, Bee balm, Daylily, Delphinium, foxglove, Rudbeckia, Sedum, Lungwort Lilac, Hollyhock, Peony and Butterfly weed.
