It all depends upon how you are having your floors refinished and how neat you are - even with drop cloths. either way has pluses and minuses.

  • Floors, it is a messy messy project. Make sure they tape off the rooms properly.

Paint the walls first, then work on the floors. The new flooring might get broken or dirty while working on the walls.

    Hi EJ,

As a general rule, it's best to do the ceilings first, then the walls and last the floors. The reason is that doing both the ceiling and the walls will affect the floor. Doing it last should give you the best results. BTW, I know you didn't ask about the ceiling but I thought I'd toss it in my reply, just in case. Wishing you the best.

Walls everytime! Wouldn't want to spoil new floors with paint!

I would paint the walls first. You don’t want paint on your floors. You could always dust your walls off later.

Floors always last in any remod. You don't want any OOPS on new floors. Even covering them up any dirt and grit can damage them.
