IKEA Desk Transformation

Before this desk update, our office area was always a mess. A lack of storage and workspace meant things piled up easily, and our printer was forced to live on an end table next to the couch. Not so pretty... So, we decided to makeover the tiny IKEA desk we already owned to save some cash, and here's how we did it!
To give the desk more much needed storage and a larger top so we had more work space and room for our printer, we built an additional cubby on the left side out of a piece of 3/4" MDF board and a 1x3.
Next, we painted the entire piece with three coats of a homemade chalk paint in an off-white color. We added clear wax once it was all dry as a protective layer, and changed out the IKEA drawer handle with something darker and sturdier from The Home Depot.
For the top, we added three 1x8's stained in our favorite way- a black tea, apple cider vinegar and steel wool method. We love it because it can be done inside our apartment with minimal ventilation! After that was dry we added three coats of clear satin poly.
We put it all back together, and it now holds all of our things comfortably, making it easier to stay more organized!
We love how it has a little Pottery Barn flair to it and it definitely fits our farmhouse style much more than the original. Thanks for reading! : )
