How can I keep deer out of my garden.

I have tried everything to keep deer out of my garden. Human hair, fox urine, Irish Spring soap, you name it and nothing is working. I put a fence around my garden and they would just jump the fence. I sprayed my plants with habenaro juice slowed them down at first but then they got used to it. I have not been able to grow a garden for years because they destroy it.

unless the fence is at least 8' it's not going to be a total deterrent -- a DOG can work ... if the dog is fairly large --- deer can stomp a dog to death; there are commercial products but must be rotated -- deer have an 'adaptive' sense of smell -- and once they figure out that the product isn't 'dangerous' they'll ignore it; Things that TASTE bad are a better choice --- https://pss.uvm.edu/ppp/articles/deerdeter3.html and don't use 'Texas Pete' type sauces; you can purchase small bottles of DANGEROUSLY hot concentrates -- made from Carolina Reaper or Ghost peppers ... mix with water and dish soap so that it 'sticks' to the plants... put in a spray bottle -- but be sure to wear gloves and safety goggles to protect yourself!

Hi Lee. What I did last year was put a pole in the middle of the garden and then use plastic garden netting to put over the top of it almost like a circus tent. I stapled the netting to the sides of the fence. It worked well and the netting was high enough so I could still go in and out of the garden with no issues. I wish you luck!

Electric fence didn't work either they jump it. Picking up road kill works but haven't found any lately. If I put one of those near my garden nothing does in it.

  • I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating - works on rabbits too!
