Has anyone had experiance using Behr Granite Grip concrete coating?
I was wondering if anyone has tried using Behr Granite Grip concrete coating. Does it really make concrete look like pebbles? How do I figure how much I need? Is it hard to apply? Would it survive Michigan winters? How do you go about applying it? I love the whole idea and would love to put it on our back sidewalk but I just don't know enough about it.

You might want to check out the Customer Reviews for Granite Grip on the Home Depot website and other websites. Some reviews are complimentary, but others not so much. Apparently this product is somewhat difficult to apply, as the little beads of color it contains have to be literally pressed out flat using a short nap adhesive roller. There is no color in the resin itself, so two coats is necessary to make it opaque and give the necessary protective thickness. Michigan winters with lots of cold, ice and snow and then spring melt and temperature changes will probably not be kind to this product if you are planning to use it on an outside sidewalk that more than likely will be shoveled, plowed or cleared with a snow blower or is covered in ice and freezes and thaws. It is sitting on top of the concrete like a paint so moisture will be able to get under the product and do some not so good things. Not saying that the product can't be good--but where you choose to use it will make all the difference in whether it's successful or it fails.
i have some overspray on my fiberglass pool; what would ai use to clean off the granite grip
I'm not happy with it at all. It's peeling up and I would like to know the easiest way to remove it. Open for suggestions.
I applied this last summer during warm dry weather on a 20x24 patio that had cured a year and has a roof over most of it. Purchased and followed all directions after watching videos and reading directions several times. It took 3 coats, that’s 3 five gallon buckets $$$. It was great the rest of the summer, fall and winter except for a few bubbles arising in the area not covered. Thought I would give that part one more coat when the weather warms enough just to seal it further. However, we had a heavy rain and the whole thing bubbled even under the cover, except the very center! What do you do with that mess?
Horrible, comes up when it rains. If they had put that in there add I would have never bought it!!!!
It looked great at first! Loved it, but then it started bubbling when moisture got underneath. Now, I'm tearing up long patches and strips of the paint after a year, and I'm finding water and mold under the paint. No scraping is needed to remove the pain, I can easily remove long sections at a time by getting my fingernail under a small corner. I should have known I was in trouble last fall, when the paint came up a bit when using a powerwasher. Not sure what I'm doing next with the patio except seal it.
The rest of you must have done something terribly wrong when installing it. I put mine down last summer, cleaning the concrete well putting 2 coats down. It went through the winter fantastic even with me shoveling on it and having a 100 pound dog racing back and forth on it with his nails. I have no bubbling on it what so ever. In fact I’m putting It down again next week for an extra coat. The can says for horizontal use, well I have put it on vertically as well and I don’t see any of it coming off...holding great. For all you doubters try it again properly, you’ll be amazed.
I used it on concrete that had been stain a crazy bluish tint. I put it down three years ago and it still looks great. I cleaned the concrete well and put down two coats. See before and after photos.
i had a bad experience with this. Not sure what if anything my contractor did wrong. Got lots of bubbles. I sent samples to Behr and they refunded me the full cost. I'm out the cost to my contractor and stuck with a surface that bubbles when it rains. I'm in SoCal so it doesn't rain often but when it does it pour! Also the area under my dryer went is washing away....weird since its just hot air. Anyone know how to remove this?
I haven't used it but it is recommended for driveways, so it should work for you. Be sure to follow the instructions for applying.
We painted our concrete patio several years ago. We investigated this Behr option and asked contractors and homeowners about it. The general consensus was that it looks great when applied, but doesn't always hold up...and if you ever want to remove it or change the finish, you're out of luck. SO we opted for Benjamin Moore Floor and Wall paint instead and it looks fabulous 3 years in tough winters.
Your best bet is to read the product reviews (check Amazon too! for reviews) then follow the instructions exactly. I think it would look great
I saw this product advertised on HomeDepot store, Reviewed the youtube videos over and over. I thought I had followed all the instructions as to how to apply the product. Well, it's not as easy as they make it to look. The granite grip is so thick, hard to spread, does not stick to concrete like they said it would. I used this on my porch and put 3 coats but still looks kind of patches in some areas. I had also put a primer first cause i wanted to put grout line stencil tape on it to make it look like squares, well after letting everything dry for several days i removed the granite stencil tape but with it some of the primer was coming off. yulk! Also on some of the the tips of the squares the granite grip was pulling back. BAD, I'm so discussed it with it I just left it alone for awhile. The bad thing about it, it's my front porch.
Just in the process of applying this product
to a 30 X 15 work shop. so far I’m not a fan
3 coats and it’s still blotchy and uneven
This stuff is far to hard to apply to get a nice finish .. it goes on like rolling out porridge and the components seem to separate. I followed the directions to a T
will need fourth coat $$$$
Not Happy 🤬😡
Yes it's excellent but you have to acid treat the surfaces let sit for an hour then rinse it etches concrete so product sticks n grabs also apply thin coats until desired texture is satisfied
I had a contractor (very knowledgeable) do my front porch and this product didn't perform as expected. it all bubbled up. Check out my pictures. I'm hoping Home Depot or Behr will reimburse me because it's not cheap. I bought three gallons, what a waste of time and cost of a contractor.
did you apply the adhevsive primer as suggested first after you etched the surface and acid washed it?
I followed the direction to a tee. 3 years later it is chipping of in chunks. I did not expect this for what it cost. I acid treated the concrete, waited the appropriate time, applied 4 coats because the recommended 3 did not provide coverage.
You have to apply muriatic acid and then with a heavy duty bristle push broom scrub real good then once finished power wash real good and make sure its fully dry. The first coat is more of a bonding coat and the second coat is where you get that finished coat. It is expensive and 5 gallons doesn't go very far(250sqft with 2 coats) but if you apply it as I have explained you won't have any issues. I live around the Dallas Texas area where it gets really hot but yet also get some weird weather days mine has done great and I even sell and install this stuff as a independent contractor. The acid cleans all the way to the pores and allows the product to stick and bond to surface. Anything you apply the rule of thumb is the better you prep your surface the better your product will apply. HandySpannMan
