Susan....We like totes and bins, plus peg board for hanging things, shelving, even corner holder for shovels, rakes, etc. I also have a two shelf shoe rack for working/dirty shoes with a coat rack above it. Hope this gives you a little insight! Good luck!

First, set aside ONE of the garage areas for your things--- if you have to fill all three, then you have too much stuff! So, get rid of everything that you haven't used in the last year or two and either sell it, throw it away, or donate it. Next, separate items by season and store them in bins, buckets, or other containers. Store anything you only use occasionally up high or furthest away and the items you use most where they are handy. Try to store things higher up using hooks and 2X4 lumber placed across the ceiling (like bicycles, skis, beach chairs, etc.) Hang tools on garage wall studs. But most of all, only keep what you actually use or need!
Shelving around the perimeter. The first step of organizing a garage is to look through the space and determine what items should or can be stored together, such as:
Purge, purge, purge.... if you have so much stuff your garage is overflowing.... you need to have a massive garage sale, or donate items you haven't used in a year.
Then some kind of storage solution along the walls, and sort things like sports equipment, tools, etc. into areas that are clearly labeled and easily accessible. Bikes can be hoised with a bike hanging rack. Garden tools can either be hung on the wall or create a divided storage bin in one area.
We have some organization ideas here - it’s a work in progress but getting much better! https://www.justmeasuringup.com/diy-garage/
