Money! actaully we had a guy build it... way better than diy
The depth of the bed can vary, but six inches of soil is a minimum. Plants need at least a 6–12-inch rooting zone, so 12 inches is ideal. Before you establish the bed, break up and loosen the soil underneath with a garden fork so that it's not compacted. Go about 6 to 8 inches deep.

Hi Jay - I've been gardening a very long time and the best raised veggie beds we had were 12 inches deep. The vegetables were awesome. We moved a few years ago and built our raised veggie beds only 6 inches deep. That wasn't deep enough, so we added another 6 inches this spring. Good luck and happy gardening!

The easiest 2 methods involve wood or cinder blocks. For wood, form a four sided frame and put it on the ground. You can add layers by using inside vertical braces nailed at the inside corners. For me, I would choose 12 inch wide wood to begin with. For cinderblocks, simply stack them over lapping as high as you want your garden, over lapping them. Then either method, add potting soil inside.
