The beautiful colors of fall can be fleeting. But you can preserve them a little longer by pressing autumn leaves, and turning them into artwork. This is a cheap and easy way to decorate your home for fall!

Start by gathering some of the pretty fall leaves from your yard or local parks. Get lots!

In addition to bright colors, look for leaves that aren't already drying out and cracking, and that aren't eaten up by bugs.

Phone books used to be the perfect tool for pressing leaves. Since most of us don't have those any more, place your leaves between the pages of any big book. I used a dictionary.

If you have lots of leaves, you'll need to spread them throughout the book.

Carefully close the book on your leaves, and then stack some more books or heavy objects on top. This helps to weigh it down.

Let the leaves sit just like this for at least a week, so they're pressed flat.

You can use any old picture frame you have lying around to make your artwork.

I cut a piece of white poster board for the background. Black would also be very striking with the beautiful fall colors.

Arrange your leaves on the backing. When you're happy with the design, sandwich them in place with the glass from the frame. Flip the whole thing over, and insert it into the frame.
