How do you know when to pick cucumbers?
Hi. I planted cucumbers for the first time this year and was wondering how to tell when they are ready to pick. By color, size? Any input would help! Thank you 😊

I wait until they are dark green, and equally wide in the middle and sloped to the ends. Get them before they begin to soften.
My preference is to pick them on the small size as if they get too big they start to get bitter, similar to zucchini. Same size as supermarket cucumbers, typically 12" or less.

Color and size will both be indicators depending on if you want them for pickles or just eating like a cucumber. Enjoy!
Try to grow them so they will hang. Cucumber growing in the ground will be bitter in comparison.
Excellent point on trying to hang them. I did this for some of my plants this year to try it out and boy oh boy, it works great. I re purposed some wooden clothes dryers I had on hand and it did the trick to test the theory, next year I'll come up with something more "permanent"..
