Chalk paint made with Chalk Line powder
Curious if anyone has used Chalk Line powder when making a DIY version "Chalk Paint"? It has calcium carbonate/lime in it. Is there a reason not to use this?
Yes, you can make your own. Here is a recipe https://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/make-your-own-chalk-paint-recipe-37878819
Make Your Own Chalk Paint Recipe
Here is a recipe
I use a 1:4 (or 20%) recipe, which can be increased to 2:4 (33%) for a thicker paint. I just read about a Hometalker who uses an old blender to make her paint smooth. If you stir your chalk paint, just stir quickly but thoroughly.
Now, stir 1/4 cup of chalky stuff to 1 cup of paint for a hair over 1 cup of paint. This dries quickly, especially if thicker, so don’t mix too much at a time. Practice on a board or heavy cardboard to see if you want it thicker. If you do, mix 1/2 cup of chalky stuff to 1 cup of paint.
Chalky stuff includes, for example, plaster of Paris, borax, baking soda, finely crushed chalk, Epsom salts. Experiment with these additives because each is a little different.
Best wishes, Carolyn! ☺️
Hi Carolyn! These are good answers! What I would add, is it is better to do small batches at a time, paint samples are usually a good amount of latex paint to work with, and a hand mixer or whisk helps blend the mixture.

Small amounts are definitely best for homemade chalk paint. All you need is some baking soda and cool water. This is how I make my own, it works great https://chemistrycachet.com/chemistry-tips-that-save-time-and-money/
