How can I get rid of ivy growing in my yard?
My neighbor's ivy has crept under my fence and is spreading throughout my yard. Does anyone know of something that will kill it?
😳Don’t do it!
Just kidding. You can absolutely start ivy plants from pieces of Ivy. In fact that’s why it’s so hard to eradicate, it just takes one teeny little piece to start a whole new vine. Just be aware that once you have Ivy, it takes an awful lot to get rid of it.
😊
Hi Nancy. I'm Cindy. You can get several new ivy plants from one stem. Be sure to cut a vine that has several leaves. Once cut, trim the vine below the bottom leaf down to about an inch or two. At this point, you can put it in water and place in a sunny window. Change the water regularly and in 6 to 8 weeks you will see new roots forming. Then you can put it in soil. Hope this helps.
To get rid of it u must cut it completely down... cover the area with black plastic. No sun... no moisture...no plant... no problem...lol have fun with the ivy. They root fast. Look beautiful on the side of a house. Keep it trimmed from the shingles on top of the roof.
I agree with not planting it. Five or ten years from not you will be saying "Why did I plant this ivy?"
Ivy is an invasive plant, it can kill your trees, shrubs and totally take over your yard. I sure wish my neighbor never planted it.
Depending on where you live, a playground for rats and mice, which in turn, invite snakes to the party. If you have pets and kids, might be something to consider. Don't get me wrong, I like ivy, in the right application, it is indestructible and perfect for erosion control.
Hi Nancy, yes you can. This quick tutorial will show you how to trim ivy so you can replant it in your garden - https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/ivy/ivy-plant-propagation.htm
Don't do it because it will become invasive and it's VERY, VERY hard to eliminate it once it's taken over.
